Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Delile leaves nutritional value for local Mossi sheep in Burkina Faso

Across Sahel area of Burkina Faso, feeding small ruminants is a constant preoccupation livestock farmers, especially during the dry season. This fact has led farmers to increasingly use fodder trees such as Balanites aegyptiaca. The present study was conducted better understand aegyptiaca nutritive value in hot season at Saria experimental station evaluating nutritional activity its dried leaves complementing basic ration crushed sorghum straw. Twelve local breed sheep “Mossi breed” divided into three homogeneous batches weight four animals which two were complemented (50 g and 100 B. aegyptiaca) control batch included experimentation for test 35 days. Analysis chemical composition reveals that they are rich crude protein (12.64% DM) minerals (14.89% with an average cellulose content (13.70% DM). During experiment, feed intake rate very high (> 99%), their consumption had positive influence on supplemented lots achieved higher straw rates than lot. Also, fed 50 per day gave best daily gain (20.7±12.4 g) compared (14.9±15.5 g). loss 20.7±7.5 g. Regarding these results, we noticed rational diet rural areas allows valorization cereal induce improvement zootechnical performances.
